Task 4 Desperate

Today's forecast called for a 12,000ft plus base and light wind, so they made a big 87km task. Out to Llano after Divisadero, back to Jovan, Iglesia and Valle Lake for goal. Well, the wind report was good but base was at 9000ft!!! Lots of pilots going down all over course line racing too hard in the extremely weak conditions, stratus and low base. Some of us managed to make it back to launch and then on death glide to Pinitas in the 4pm shade over the back. Some of the lowest saves ever, kicking treetops at Llano before drifting back to the TP. Climb to 8800 or so and glide into the shade, climb, repeat and try to stay in the air. Nobody made goal, the farthest was 72km or so, by Brad G. I managed 64.1kms and put me in the top 20. Right now my gps was having some trouble so I'm not on the results list yet. Fun day and amazing that we could fly as far in the weakest conditions possible it seemed. SM
