If you like warm, sunny and dry weather to fly in, then this is the place to be right now. Everyday we have flown into the convergence and maintained altitudes of +12,000ft, and strongish 5-6m/s lift. Lots of people flying everywhere but not super crowded. Lots of lake flights for lack of a better plan and mesa criss-crossing. A couple of nice evening glass-offs gaining altitude over the Penon wall. A few mishaps of course but that is the usual. The weather has changed slightly in the last day. Now we have some high cirrus clouds, the climbs are a little slower but still managing to get high. Depending on which direction you go, there are some winds at different heights but that is the usual for convergence flying. From launch at 7700ft, you just suck it up in the rough thermals out front for a bit until you get to around 9,000ft-10,000 and drift over to the mesa or the back and get into another thermal that usually takes you up to the convergence at around 11,000-13,000ft and hope to follow it some direction for a little xc flight. There hasnt been the usual cloud flying much so its been dry and strong. I'm sure that will change at some point but you can just count on flying the dry air for now.
Also the tequila and sangrita are good for some apre-vol. more later...SM
p.s. the pic is of Nevado de Toluca (summit 16,oooft) that I took yesterday while trying to make it to the East over the pass. More here
