Task 4 Hero to Zero under ten minutes
Today was more of the high pressure we've been having, strong valley winds, and slow climbs at launch until you get to the Wall. The task was a more racey task though. At 72km, it was a start cylinder out in the flats Southwest of Espina called Stater with a 1km Entry cylinder and the first turnpoint inside at 400m. Back to launch was next and then North to Jovan, from there it was South again to Aguila over the flats then goal was at the notorious Ramon. My flight consisted of being at the very front at the start and then leading back to Espina. It was all downhill from there, literally. Getting the start and inner turnpoint right on time, I headed back to Espina and took the right side of the ridge, bad choice. Although, it seemed like people were climbing there I kept pushing in but missing it entirely. What I got was a full fledged waterfall of sink drilling me down behind Cerpel into the Rotor. Moments later I found myself unbelievingly getting my feet out of my pod to land. Thinking I could hit something before landing I kept working, but then it was too late and my feet were in the dirt. Looking at my gps I noticed my clock showed +9:58 minutes into the race and it was over. Oh well, rest day for me.
I heard 60 pilots made goal or so. Seems to be the norm daily.
The image above is of Penon area from the South when we came back from the new Llano turnpoint the other day. SM
