Sorting it out in the snow, again.

The lapse rate looked great for today, 10kts NW wind and base around 4000ft. Even though we had a big snowstorm last night that left a few inches on the ground there seemed to be enough instability to squeak out a few km's. Arriving on the South side of launch it appeared there was a big break in the clouds and we might be able to knock something off. It was crunchy and cold with light winds and intermittent snow squalls coming through the South side. Making the decision to launch into one of them instead of wait for it to blow east or down and have to deal with a skinny glider trying to run off the hill in a snowstorm. After finding my wing and its many tangles somehow since last time I flew it, it was really disconcerting to be getting snowed on harder while trying to manage my tangled comp lines back in order for a forward launch. It was snowing hard enough for you to have to squint to see what the heck was going on. Good thing I had my ski goggles for flat light conditions that seemed to do the job quite well for this scenario but not really intending to use them for actual snowy conditions while flying. Long story short it was a short boaty glide down through some snowy clouds. Now, its back to the living room for the glider and gear so it dries out enough for tommorrow. SM
