Travelling Light and Fun in the Sun

So far, the weather forecasts for the past several days havent taken into account the dirty Low pressure system that keeps pumping clouds our way from the South. Today it seemed that it was the same ol thing happening with "predicted" sunshine. Around 2pm it cleared finally. Non-existent wind and sunshine equals a good day of flying. Some of us flew off of the South side, my preference, others waited to run off the North. I would rather run off the sunny side of a launch anyday in the Northern Hemisphere, epsecially with no wind. Thermal cycles will always blow or trickle up the sunward facing slopes equating to lift where, even if its weak you can hang out until something stronger comes through that you can climb out in. I launched the south side and barely maintained below Yar wall for about 10 minutes until a stronger pulse of thermal broke through and easily climbed up to 4200ft or so. I could see both launches filled with pilots waiting to get off in the next light cycle. It appeared the South side launchers were getting off launch way easier with the sunny side working. Boating around the bowl for awhile I was waiting for some friends to come up, finallyA-Dre stuck it out and climbed up as it started producing again. Crusing over to the Lookout I noticed that base over the mountains was super high like 7-8oooft! Just not over Tgr Mtn. Interesting to see base so high this time of year over the high ground. Cruising around on my old Addict and lightweight hiking harness, I travelled to and fro watching as other pilots were getting up and enjoying a crystal clear day and it was lifting. The convergence had setup nicely with cu's showing the way right over Squak and the valley in front of Tgr. Alas, it was short-lived but hopefully a primer for things to come this spring. Great flying with all ya'll that got out. Sorry no photos today. SM
