Task 6 Finale
The last task started with Maguey as the start cylinder out to Divisa then across the mesa to Ramon, back to Iglesia then to Torre and Valle as goal. It was a quick task as we blasted out to Divisadero then got stuck trying to climb out near 3 Kings on the way back to tank up before crossing to Ramon. The thermals were small and getting blasted by the winds coming up the ridges from the southwest, finally I was able to climb out and glide to Gordo into the convergence line. Kind of weak line over Gordo but I was able to glide to Escalera and boosted firmly into the rough convergence. From there it was the big valley crossing over Jovan to Ramon. Some pilots following the convergence line off course line to Sacamacate and then tagging Ramon or dirting along the way. Others bee-lined across to Jovan straight to Ramon and found nothing also. Thats where I ended my last task for the Monarca. The Ramon turnpoint has been sucking pilots down all week and today was no different. Still lots of pilots making it to goal.
This was an incredible competition. Everyone learning tons and even the task committee sending us out to unknown turnpoints proved to make this Monarca very successfull, including the organization of everyone involved. Kudos to all the comp organization and pilots. As for the winners, I think Eric Reed and Farmer took place 2nd and 3rd place while Mickey from Venezuela took the top. Nice work to the gringos. SM
