Task 3

Todays task started at the little volcano "Cerpel" as the start cylinder. The day was all high pressure and inverted. So, climbs were not that strong and the cores were small. Topping out at only around 10,200ft for the start we tagged it and flew down course line back to the Penon and then launch again to tank up on the mediocre thermals present. A couple other gaggles headed back to the wall and over tot he Mesa. The next turnpoint was across the valley to Mesa Delores then back across the Mesa to Escalera before tanking up to LZ3390 on the way to Toluca. The race was slow today becuase the conditions relegated it. Otherwise, you were on the ground early. I got Mesa D and the got Escalera with the convergent line. Headed to Los Saucos with a couple of gaggles but I hung back and topped up to 12,00ft beofre headed over the pass and Los Saucos. Diving in to L. Saucos I managed to get somestuff off of the ridges with a few others but the boomers just wouldnt come through. After about 45 mintues and climbs to only just below 11,000ft it wasnt enough to blast over the second part of the Pass to goal, plus the sky had shaded when were there and made it weaker. Landing with about 7 other pilots just past the Butterflies. A lot of work over there with out goal again and another 4 hour flight finished the day. But it was fun. Especially grovelling low over the trees where I could see the swarms of butterflies in the trees. The quality and level of pilots at this comp are immense given the gathering of international competitors. Everybody is learning a ton from eachother. There hasnt even been any reserve rides yet either unlike prior Monarca's where there's a few a day!
