away to Valle

First post of the new year and last post for awhile from the country. We're leaving Friday morning for Valle de Bravo, Mexico and the competition circuit down there for the rest of the month.
I finally received my new Niviuk Peak glider and managed to squeak out a flight New Years eve day. Not much to report on that because it was a sledder. I will be putting it to the test in the high Mexican mountain air, hopefully keeping it together. It is a high aspect ratio(6.6) with an EN D certificate (new system for testing gliders at Air Turquoise in S. France and similar to a dhv 2-3). From the sledder it felt pretty nice gliding but I will have to put some serious air time on it before I can give feedback as to how it handles and performs. I will also be flying my extra small Niviuk Artik (dhv-2)down there for some acro and low maintenance fun. I tend to get bored with XC flying down there after a couple of weeks so it will be a nice break. Nothing like leaving the instruments, high expectations, and other miscellaneous crap behind and just free flying, doing what you want, and then yarding the brakes around in the sky. Thats what "free flying" is all about to me.
Next post should be from Valle. Saludos! SM

Some more info on the EN system here.
