Up and away from Le Dents after getting hammered by the valley winds. We flew over the back towards Thones and intercepted the big ridge at Le Chat d'Thone where we scratched in the ridge lift for about 45 minutes and about 2m above the ground trying to get up the face. (Sorry no pics from this day). Not being able to get over Le Chat, I was a hundred feet below the summit, I opted to fly back down the ridge towards Thone and head over the back and up the Thone Valley rather than going on glide low to Grand Bornand like Dave and Jabe did but they were alittle bit higher anyway. Meredyth and I headed up valley and landed just inside St. Jean de Sixt where our lodging is. Fun day. The flying here is way different. Steep, rocky faces that guarantee lift like hot air vents when you fly over and valley winds blowing strong when you get low from various directions, cloud flying, yes inside if you want and thermalling very close to the terrain if you want to get up. So, I guess its not that different. It has taken me awhile to figure out this place, but I am a slow learner. I felt a lot better flying the conditions today. I brought along my Ozone Addict that needs retiring and I wished I had my Trango. That would be a better choice for here, but I thought we would be doing more mtn launch and acro flying, you can if you want, but this place is a cross country paradise!
Track from the day...not very efficient for an xc flight!
