task 2. blow-apart

Task 2 started out with too many clouds to provide lift. But the last 30 minutes before the start it opened up...and went ballistic. 84km to goal down range with an upwind start cylinder. I made the start casually in to the wind and was headed back down the range passing launch and was catching up with the lead gaggle at the front of Seven. I hit an eruption of air and was just hanging on going up. After a few turns i took the lift down wind and then got whacked and it was loud. Other pilots near by reported hearing this loud bang. But it went something like this, Front tuck asymetric, spin 180 riser twist then another tuck spin sequence led to another riser twist to 360. At that point the glider was still diving and trying to lock me in to a spiral. Finally, I kicked my feet out of my pod and reached up above the risers (like in a manuevers clinic ive done a few times) and kicked and turned myself back 180. The glider is now surging but behind me so I cranked on the risers again to turn back to normal and caught the hideous surge. Flew straight away and looked for another themal after some deep breathing. I started into some lift and looked up to see my entire right side C lines flapping in the breeze. Very mushy brake on that side led me to my exit for the LZ from 3000' over and concentrating on getting down safely. Meredyth flew a ways down range and had a good flight but feeling the vicious lift around here too.
